ESF attempting to ban UK ski hosts 16th Nov 12 The French national ski school (ESF) is trying to stop British tour operators from offering a ski guiding service for their clients. One tour operator faces a court case and this week meetings have been taking place to try to resolve the issue.
A number of British ski companies offer a guiding service where a trained ski host shows groups of clients around the slopes. They do not teach, do not go off piste or ski difficult runs. The service is free to guests.
The ESF is now trying to ban the practice claiming it breaks national safety rules and says the ski hosts are not suitably qualified under French law.
The organisation is being accused of protectionism and that it will drive British holidaymakers to other countries where ski hosting is allowed.
France is the most popular destination for British skiers and has around 35% of the market. back to news
