More Alpine resorts open

A fewl of glacier ski areas open this weekend with more to follow soon. The heavy snow from earlier in the week has helped though temperatures have increased and much has melted.

This weekend sees slopes above Engleberg, St Moritz and Cervinia open. The Kitzsteinhorn fun park at Kaprun also springs into life. Next weekend Les Deux Alpes in France opens up.

Already open are Hintertux, Stubai, Solden, Kaprun and Pitztal in Austria.

In Switzerland Zermatt and Saas-Fee have their top lifts running, though they closed on Thursday due to high winds, while Val Senales and Passo Stelvio are open in the Italian Alps.

The Grande Motte glacier is open at Tignes in France.
