Forest fires threaten US ski resorts 2nd Jul 12 Precautions are being taken by ski resorts in California, Colorado, Utah and many other states as the most severe fires in a decade sweep across several mountain regions.
Smoking and all naked flames have been banned. No BBQs are allowed and with US Independence Day on 4th July firework displays have been cancelled.
The resort of Ski Apache in New Mexico used snow cannons to battle the blazes and others are filling theirs up. Poor winter snow has led to dry ground and a lack of water to fight the blazes. The fires are damaging summer tourism after a poor winter.
Jackson Hole in Wyoming has filled up all its water cannons as a precautionary measure in case they are needed to fight fires. back to news
